One of the greatest weapons in my organizing arsenal is weekday wardrobe planning. Every Sunday night, I plan my outfits for the week -- down to the accessories. While this is partially out of habit, the truth is I'm not a morning person and every moment that I can spend in bed is precious. Also, I'm so indecisive about what to wear that choosing my outfit in the mornings can eat up a lot of time.
If you want to save yourself time in the morning and keep your look fresh, plan your clothes the night before your week starts. It's easier than it sounds; just follow these 4 steps:
1. Select your outfit base.
I alternate the kind of pieces I'm going to wear -- skirt, dress, or slacks. This is how I consciously mix up my style and keep myself from getting in a rut.
2. Add personality with a color or pattern scheme.
Some of my favorite trends to play with are black and white (always a classic office look), stripes, touches of leopard (which I often use in place of a color), and vibrant pops on a neutral base (all white with sunshine yellow).
3. Choose your shoes.
Shoes can be the best necessary accessory you own! A fun shoe can elevate your look, making a simple outfit playful or chic.
4. Layer in accessories.
Here's the fun part for me -- I add a cute belt, favorite watch, statement necklace, or attention grabbing earrings. However, I like to keep my look sleek so I don't wear more than 2 accessories at a time. If I'm struggling with having added too many details, I try to remember Coco Chanel's advice "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory".
